Hear a Story, Make a Poem – in which I will start each session by telling an oral story leading to conversation and then, with helpful prompts as necessary, the group makes poems that arise from the story as a starting point. Each week I will gather a single line from each individual, and edit them into a group poem for that week, that story. And of course they will have their own writing to develop as they wish. So for example, I’ll tell them the story of ‘The King of the Mackerel’, and we have options of writing about the sea, about riddling questions, about defeating the devil, overcoming fear etc etc.
Making Poems for (insert name of your town) – in which each week we begin with a short walk out of the Library, making notes about what we see (about 30mins). Back in the library we discuss the day’s haul of events and images and the group set off to write their own work. Each week I will also gather a single line from each individual, and edit them into a group poem for that week.
