We love reading! We aim to support, develop and deepen the culture of reading in the West Midlands. We create exciting reading opportunities and experiences for readers, through different strands.
We offer exciting reading events for readers groups, in public libraries, with arts/heritage venues, and in collaboration with literature festivals. These events might involve special readers’ days, discussions, book-swaps or book-doctor sessions (where you might get a new reading prescription). Most importantly, they are a chance for readers to share a love of reading with others.
Short story commissions
Our short-story commissioning strand offers readers’ groups the opportunity to commission bespoke short stories. Teamed together with a regionally based writer, the readers’ group provides ‘ingredients’ and the writer cooks up the story. The stories are published in an anthology of other bespoke stories and showcased at a celebratory event in Birmingham.
Our readers-in-residence artists collaborate with local library authorities to offer a special programme of creative reading activities. These events and activities take place in community settings and invite readers to experience literature in new ways.
Get in touch!
If you are a member of a readers group and have books lists and recommendations to share, we’d love to hear from you. We know that there are hundreds of reading groups across the Midlands, all with their own unique features and ways of operating. Let us know if you are a member of a readers’ group and would like to write for us about your group.
Perhaps you would like your own special event as a reading group. We may be able to fund a writer to visit your group to talk about their writing. Or would you like to commission a bespoke story as part of our short story commissioning strand? Please contact us.
