Readers in Residence

The Readers in Residence programme tests new ways of engaging with readers and aims to develop innovative, creative ways to broaden and deepen reading experiences. The programme links regional artists with a local library authority and/or independent bookshops to explore and develop exciting reading activities.

In 2020 we worked in partnership with Warwick Books and local, award-winning novelist Susan Fletcher. We distributed wrapped, mystery books to encourage readers to step outside of their reading comforts, collected reader responses and showcased reactions in the shop window.

In 2021 we worked with Bookshop on the Green in the Bournville Hub and bestselling Birmingham based novelist Mike Gayle.  Mike ran 'Agony Uncle' book consultations and encouraged readers to think about their Desert Island Books, completing an island postcard with four companion book choices. This culminated in a live discussion and a curated booklist.
